Catch up in pictures

Now that I’m stuck on bedrest I thought I’d use the opportunity to update the blog:

The other day it was a sunny beautiful day (still a tad bit chilly but manageable) and the kids convinced us to take them on a walk to the farm. We piled on our coats, hats, and boots and headed out to see the baby lambs, calves, goats and other animals at Papa’s farm.



I finally broke down and bought the toddler size pattern for the boots (the website was having a sale)

For Valentine’s day we decided not to really spend any money so we made Daddy homemade sugar cookies and chocolate candies, some with strawberry flavoring, some with mint, and some with chocolate chips:

I’ve been working on flower clips to put on headbands so that the colors can be switched or the flowers can be worn in Alexa’s hair on their own - here’s 3 for Alexa & 2 for baby so far as well as their new white headbands:


A local 2nd-hand store had a 10 items for $10 sale on its clearance stuff so I checked it out & got Logan some new clothes for Sunday for only $3 :) !!! Micah did his hair all spikey again and we kept telling him that he looked handsome to which he would reply “No I not handsome, I LOGAN!!!!” :)

Random

Logan is growing up way too fast. Its sad that I think this already, afterall in only 5+ weeks he is going to seem a WHOLE lot older when I’m holding baby in my arms! He took his sweet time deciding to do most things in life…roll, crawl, walk, talk, etc. When he finally took off with talking (I’m pretty sure this was when he finally realized by talking his sister had to stop) he has increased his vocab by leaps and bounds. It never ceases to amaze me what comes out of his mouth these days! Not only will he repeat anything & everything but he comes to us with the funniest statements and comments seemingly out of the blue. He is very big into playing basketball and constantly uses it as a tactic to avoid nap time and bed time. He LOVES to sing & dance & he will do both anytime he hears music of any kind (even just the music in his head.) He is a struggle to keep quiet and still and he LOVES to go, go, go. I think of him these days as my future weight loss program (for after baby is born.) :)

Alexa had kindergarten round-up last week. Where has the time gone? I remember anxiously waiting her arrival and thinking she’d never get here, let alone be almost 5 years old!!! While I am mentally and physically ready for her to go to school, and while she is BEYOND ready to go…its going to be weird. She is by BIG helper, literally - she does so much for her brother, especially early in the morning and with this pregnancy and all. It’s a good thing I have all summer with her yet so she can help out the first few months baby is home! She was beyond excited to go and had been counting down the sleeps until the day came. That Wednesday Daddy asked her several times how she felt about going to round-up and her answer would come in this simple not much emotion showing way saying “I’m excited but a little bit nervous too!” It was quite cute. As I dropped her off, she had to get her name tag on and have her picture taken -- and the look on her face became more and more alarmed that I would be leaving her. I know she doesn’t like mom leaving anyway (she bawls for me to go to bible study at nights when she’s home with Dad but waves happily when he goes anywhere) so I had told her in advance that I wasn’t allowed to stay & that if she didn’t cry or throw any fits I’d take her out on a doughnut date afterwards. That part thankfully worked but as I said goodbye to her the look she shot me could have killed me! It was this deer in headlights type of a look that seemed to cry out as if I had just led my little lamb to the slaughter house! I was scared to return and pick her up…but alas, as I stood outside the classroom and she came out to find me she was a different girl entirely! She was bouncing and happy and incredibly excited! The buzz/high she had from going there lasted throughout the rest of the day/afternoon/night! She was still ecstatic as she was going to bed that night!

Needless to say both kids keep me on my toes constantly and are full of excitement and energy. Although they are similar in many ways its amazing to see how different they truly can be!

Logan

The following is a taste of our Logan that pretty accurately paints a picture of his personality:

He & his sister woke up at 6:40 the other morning (aka Logan woke her up when got up) and started watching cartoons. We always leave sippy cups of OJ in the fridge every night before bed so they know they can go get them first thing in the morning (and buy mommy a bit more sleep). That apparently only sufficed him for a small time because before 7:30 he was poking me in the arm saying “Mommy I have candy, I have candy” all while trying to pull open my nightstand drawer (which he knows has candies for me for the middle of night needs while pregnant.) I told him no about 4 times (he kept asking relentlessly) before he decided to throw a fit and cry…so now I knew I couldn’t give in. Instead I offered to get him some Apple Jacks to snack on. He said yes he wanted cereal.

To the kitchen we went. I asked if he preferred a bowl or a bag (easier for him not to spill) but he wanted a bowl. I poured him the bowl, handed it to him, and proceeded to head back to my room (& back to bed.) He started crying again. I turned and asked what was wrong. He cried something inaudible and held his bowl out to give back to me. After he calmed down he tells me “eat at table MOMMMY!” I tried as hard as I could to convince him no, he didn’t need breakfast, just to take his cereal and snack on it in front of the TV (should be every kid’s dream right?") There was no budging that boy though. He was insistent “me eat at table, milk, spoon, bib, MOMMY!!!” Which in his world means I have to pour him milk, put his bib on, help him into his booster chair, give him a spoon and sit with him while he eats his breakfast.

He is VERY PARTICULAR about how things are done (something he may have gotten from me) and he definitely is an EARLY RISER like his father -- once he’s up the world is supposed to be up right? However he is also VERY STUBBORN (gets that from both of us) and is a typical 2-year old with the mentality of “my way & only my way” and that way must be NOW…needless to say he likes to throw fits if he doesn’t get his way! Hopefully he grows out of that stage sooner rather than later!

His sister spoiled me at this age. She would wake up, come down, get her sippy cup and either turn on the tv to PBS and sit & watch it quietly by herself or if she wanted company she’d crawl in bed with me & cuddle or watch cartoons by me while I slept. Logan…well he’s not like that at all. His definition of cuddling involves about 5 minutes MAX of laying still with every blanket, pillow, and other item he can find place exactly where HE wants it. He does not silently watch cartoons. Instead, he has to ask about every minute or so who is on the screen (even though he knows) and has to tell me and confirm what is going on. If I so much as close my eyes laying next to him he will smack my face saying WAKE UP MOMMA!!! Its cute but rather inconvenient. The other morning he woke up before his sister & found the door to their room open. (he can’t open it on his own) He came downstairs (at 6:15am) and was WIDE AWAKE. He decided to get dressed immediately (not uncommon for him whereas Alexa could spend all day in her PJ’s without complaint) so he starts smacking me on the arm and face to wake me up. “Momma, Get me dressed” is the cries I wake up to. I tired talking him out of it, tried convincing him to cuddle or go back to sleep (given the early hour) but it was to no avail. The more I tried the more adamant he became that he was going to get dressed immediately. I opened my eyes to really look at him to find he had stripped his PJ’s off and was working on taking his overnight diaper off. Needless to say the silly boy won that fight!

My new obsession…

For Christmas I asked Micah for a cheap kit that would get me everything I needed to start learning to crochet. He listened & got me exactly what I wanted! Since then I’ve been spending every “free” moment working on projects. I’m certainly not professional by any means but here’s what I’ve managed to make so far:

A Swiffer Sweeper reusable cleaning cover - I found this on pinterest & had to try it - this is a picture of my very first attempt, I ended up making one for my mom too & then a modified one for my sister’s Swiffer wet-jet too!

A baby blanket for the new baby - I even added flowers for her to play with when having her tummy time :)

An ear warmer headband for myself - it had 2 layers I had to sew together which was a learning experience

I started with a hat for this baby girl & made one for a friend for a shower gift too:

A gal at church had a baby boy so I made him one for the shower present too:

Then I attempted booties, I wasn’t too fond of this pattern but they will work for when baby is first born

Alexa thought I should make her a hat like baby girl’s too, only on hers I switched the colors around & added another stripe. :)


Then I found a cute headband pattern so I made Alexa one & she had me make baby girl a matching one

Then I finally splurged and bought a pattern online & made this “rain boot style” bootie for baby girl - Alexa is begging for me to make her the same ones but I’m not sure if I can modify the pattern to fit her so we’ll see!

Next up I have to make Logan a “monkey” hat as he calls it & then I might attempt the boots for Alexa & Logan (they both keep begging) & then I hope to make another receiving blanket for baby girl before she arrives as well. We’ll see though! :) Most projects are easy & take only a few hours but the blanket I did in all half double crochets so it took longer than if I’d done a bigger (longer) stitch :)

So, if I seem a little recluse lately, I’m probably just sitting at home crocheting - Micah refers to me as his little old lady wife because even if we have people over I sit there crocheting while they talk or watch TV or what not :)

I guess its official…We’ve become minivan people…

So we’ve been on the hunt for well over a year now to find the perfect van. Perfect not literally but one that meets all our needs and has the features we wanted with the right price tag for Micah and the low mileage I wanted…

We’ve looked at countless sites online (Ebay, Craigslist, Swap, Dealerships, etc) and even gone to view and test drive several different kinds and options. Last summer we thought we’d agreed on a good option but Micah didn’t want to pay what they were asking and it sold to someone else. Micah promised he’d find one with all the options, plus dependability and low mileage for the price he wanted to pay. I found one I liked but Micah didn’t want to trade in our Equinox to get it so we passed on that option too.

Then he found one on Craigslist. I was not a fan. It had NOT been cared for on the inside and was cloth instead of leather (which when not being well-maintained makes a BIG difference.) After going and looking at it we both said that no, considering its condition, it wasn’t worth the price. About a week later Micah noticed the price had been lowered again. He insisted we go check it out again, just to see it once more & test drive it. So we did. We ended up taking it home that night and showed it to a friend who regularly repairs and restores vehicles so we could get his opinion on the cost to bring it to a condition that would make me happy. Apparently Micah liked what he heard because the next morning he offered the guy what he thought was a fair price & we’d bought the van!

Originally the plan was to pay people to clean the interior and pay someone to repair the 2 dents in the exterior as well as replace the windshield. However, that wouldn’t be the Micah way to do things. So we spent the rest of the day disassembling it so that we could give it a hard-core cleaning - we went as far as taking all the seats out and then the carpet itself out so we could clean it with an industrial carpet and upholstery cleaner. Micah repaired the DVD player, the rear blower system, the back windshield wiper motor, the rear back-up sensor, and numerous other small things. Then we reassembled the whole thing. He spent some more time repairing the dents in the exterior and getting it back in normal working condition. All that’s left is replacing the windshield.

Its certainly not the van of my dreams or anything close but it suits our needs and was definitely a dependable vehicle for the right price! Here’s a few “before” pictures just to show what we are up against:
