Crazy morning…

I have so much to recap on but first things first I’ll start with the events of this morning.

I'm in the shower enjoying my 10 minutes of alone time I'll get all day. As I’m in there I'm listening to Logan crying and banging on the door because he can’t get to me. Then over his crying I hear Alexa start to shout something, although I can't possibly hear or understand her over the sound of the water, the fan going, and of course Logan’s crying and banging.

She’s shouting something about water dripping from holes so I figure I better let her in to find out what she’s saying. She opens the door and the following conversation proceeds:

Alexa: “Mom there’s water dripping out of the holes of “
Me: “what? what fan? where? what are you talking about”
Alexa: “You know, the fan in the ceiling about the carpet and hard floor?”
Me: “In the living room?”
Alexa: “Yep and its dripping on the carpet and the hard floor”
Me: (Still not believing her) “You mean Logan was drooling or spilled his sippy cup and the floor and carpet are wet?”
Alexa: “No its falling on me from the holes in the fan”
Me: “Yeah okay, I’ll check in a minute” (Totally not believing her & assuming she just stepped on her brother’s spill"

So I shut the shower off & begin to dry off while Logan plays with everything in the bathroom & Alexa says to me as she runs downstairs “the doorbell rang I’ll go get it.”

I dry off, scoop Logan up while holding my towel on me and proceed downstairs. Alexa has answered the door and let her friend in to ask me if she can go play with him. Although it is about 11:58 at this point & lunch should be made & eaten I figure its better than letting her friend see me in my towel and I say sure. I round the corner of the steps and before me is the living room. Its at this point I went into panic mode. There is indeed a line of water about a yard stick long dripping from my ceiling onto all the toys & the rug & the hardwood floors. FABULOUS! I put Logan down (who immediately starts crying) I run to get the phone realizing Alexa’s standing paralyzed by the door because 4 out of our swarm of moths have invaded our house and are blocking her path to play with her friend. I shoo her out the garage door, pick Logan back up, locate the phone and call Micah telling him that although I know he said he’d be busy at work and not make it home for lunch he needed to come home NOW because water was coming into our living room.

I sure hope the rest of this day gets better than the beginning has. Welcome home to me I guess!

My latest projects :)

I’ve been working hard the last few days cutting and sanding away, trying to build Alexa a doll house like I had when I was little. :) Here’s a few pictures of the project so far:

CIMG1122 CIMG1123

CIMG1127Now I’ve just got to find the time to prime and paint it (at Alexa’s request) and then I’m going to “lay” some carpet in the bedrooms and living room and some tile flooring (all leftovers from our house) in the kitchen. :) After that this project should be complete (although I think I’m still going to attempt to make some chairs for the kitchen table when the weather gets a little warmer again.)

I must have spring fever or something because nothing in my house is suitable for me -- I want to revamp or clean or re-organize everything! If I was pregnant and in my 8th month I’d say I was nesting but that’s CERTAINLY not the case! I really am not sure what’s gotten into me (nor is Micah) but so far I’ve been: cooking and baking a lot each week (its always a surprise in our house if we eat more home-made meals than frozen foods, sandwiches, or cheap fast food). I’ve bug-bombed, vacuumed every square inch, purged, and organized the “office” room (the old front porch of the house that we don’t heat or cool but use sort of as an office and sort of as a storage dumping grounds for all things we don’t know where to put.) I’ve emptied and painted the basement bedroom (hoping to one day turn that into Alexa’s room complete with bunk beds & all). Moved the king guest bed into the family room in the basement and cleaned & rearranged that room. I’ve rearranged and cleaned the laundry room, revamped an old cabinet down there, and cleaned the spare storage closet down there (creepy basement under-the-stairs closet filled with spider webs and things).

If Micah would let me (or if I could convince him) I’d have gutted our main floor bedroom & scrapped the popcorn ceiling off as well as ripped apart the plaster walls and tried to start the drywall process in that room. I’m hoping we can figure out if we’ll ever make major improvements to our house (like build my dream master bedroom on) or not -- if not I’d like a better closet built in our main floor room & then I’d like to convert the main floor bathroom’s tub into a full shower system. Otherwise I have MAJOR ideas for what I could do to the main floor -- but that would require a bit of an open mind and MUCH bigger budget from Micah! :) haha - a girl can dream right? The way I look at it - I’m happy & content with what we have - but if there’s room for improvement why not? After all - I’d much rather improve this house than EVER move again & have to have another lengthy mortgage!

My other projects have been trying my hand at sewing again - I made myself (with my mom’s teaching help) a dress - although I won’t wear it until/if my exercise helps me trim some problem areas - but I still consider the dress itself a successful attempt! (below is a picture of the dress) I’ve also been trimming and re-sewing curtains for the “office” area room windows because the ones that were in there were way too long for the windows. Then I hope to make a few dresses for Alexa - everything in her closet is starting to be too short for her & I’m not sure I’m in the mood to shop in the big girls area all the time for her - she’s still my little baby right??? I’d like to find a pattern and make Logan a suit too but I’m not sure if I’m ambitious enough to try it yet! :)

Oh well -- enough of my rambling! Here’s some other pictures of what we’ve been up to lately! :)

Couple things :)

Here’s how Logan thinks he needs to eat his breakfast now - like a big boy:

And here’s my latest project - for the longest time Alexa has been asking for a doll house -- and so I thought why not give her one like I had growing up - - a simple homemade type that worked for barbies, dolls, and about anything! So rather than spending LOTS of money we don’t have on one from a store I thought I’d use scrap wood we have and make one! :) Its all planned out & now I’m getting started making it. No it won’t be anything fancy but I hope it will be nice enough for her to enjoy without me caring if anything happens to it because it won’t cost much. Here’s a peak at a “bed” we made for it tonight -- I still am debating covering the top and sides with contact paper to look like a bedspread (and cover any flaws in the wood) :)

What happens when big sister lets little brother outside without Mom…

Here’s what happens:

CIMG1116 He went to the edge of our front porch (cement) and apparently toppled down the 3 cement steps to the driveway, leaving skid marks on his shoulders and a giant goose-egg skid mark bruise on his head. Needless to say we had a nice conversation with Alexa about not letting him outside unless Mom is right there! :)

Enjoying the weather, Auntie Jill’s prom and more

We’ve totally been taking advantage of the spring & summer like weather we’ve been having for the last few weeks! Alexa goes outside to play almost every day (including crazy windy days) and Logan constantly goes over to the shoe bin and BEGS to have his shoes put on and then he goes to the door and bangs on it until someone will let him out! Unfortunately the person sometimes letting him out is Alexa (more on why this is a problem later) which is not Mom’s favorite thing! We even had the chance to take outdoor pictures with Sophia, Emma, and Auntie Jill (on her prom night) because the weather was so beautiful! We even took a trip to the swimming pool with Grandma Fennema and our cousins Kinzie, Faith, and Luke.

Where do I start? How about with the wackiest…

Here’s the picture recaps of the last few weeks :)!

First off we’ll start with our church’s youth group putting on a Mystery Supper with the theme “Would you still be my friend if I wore this…???”  -- I think that about sums up the pictures below!

Random word picture & a reminder I need to keep in front of me!

We’re reading the book of Job for a bible study I’m in and these thoughts keep reoccurring for me -- its just a simple random earthly word picture I thought of that I personally found helpful. I in NO way think God is at our earthy human level or incapable of doing all things -- I acknowledge fully that he is Almighty & Sovereign. With that said I still liked this picture:

We often doubt God’s love for us when we think that blessings are “lacking” when trials are overwhelming us.

Instead think of it like this: imagine a person whose responsibility is to watch over us and care for us. When trials aren’t surrounding us, they have the time to throw out blessings -- give us the big things like homes, cars, jobs, children, health, wealth, beauty, and the little things and so on and on. When trials come our way and that person sees our need then they step in to help us. He carries us, wipes up our tears, holds us up, protects us, fights off our attackers,  strengthens us, nurses our illnesses, encourages us, and so on. He’s too busy helping us make it through our trials to continue handing out those frivolous, earthly, unnecessary blessings at those moments. Instead he’s blessings us by keeping us alive! By wiping our tears. By lifting us up. (you get the idea) Maybe at those moments we should change our definition of “blessings”. Our life is a blessing. Or even better yet -- the eternal gift of abiding with God in eternity -- he is even now preparing a place for us with him in heaven. What greater blessing could we want?

I don’t mean that God isn’t all-powerful, all-knowing, and completely capable of handling all the world’s problems for all his children at the exact same time -- I know and believe that to be true. But in our fallen, sinful, skewed world-view perhaps we need to take the blinders off and open our eyes to the truest forms of blessings God has granted us -- the forgiveness of every last one of our sins and the promise of eternal life with him in glory. What greater blessing could we ask for?

Enough wordy posts :) I promise - next time will be a post including pictures! :)
